We had a problem. We planted 500 running feet of vetiver grass for hillside retention. Vetiver grass is great for bio-engineering, in our case retaining a steep hillside, but when vetiver grass is fully established, we found it too tough to cut with a Fiskars hedge shears. So we tried a power hedge trimmer, which broke the grass rather than cut it cleanly. Then we discovered that the Japanese make hedge shears with really sharp blades. So we ordered this ARS model. The blades are razor-sharp. The tool is light; the handles are excellent. And best of all, the shears did a great job on our vetiver hedges. -- AMAZING HEDGE SHEARS

I purchased this product because I have two areas of concern in my yard: a) a 50 ft hedge that I can't wait to remove and replace with a sculptured berm, and b) the rest of my yard with assorted topiaries, shrubs and bushes. I also have an 8 ft holly that I maintain in a spherical shape, which has limited access for a ladder to get in close to trim it like I want, so I needed an extendable tool with good precision capability.

I chose this pair of shears mainly because it is made of Japanese steel, and it is telescopic. This product is total quality , and a far cry from the cheesy aluminum shears from Home Depot that shred my topiaries. The blade edge is sharp enough to shave with, and the " snap in " telescopic handles allow pinpoint precision for your handiwork, which is what anyone who cares about quality landscaping is all about!
