I purchased this lopper from Amazon a year ago, and have been using it regularly to cleanup my yard. This lopper really makes you feel like Superman the way it slices through branches, both green and dry. For very large branches, I will place one handle on the ground and step on the other to complete the cut. The only slight negative is that you have to open the jaws wider than a non-ratcheting lopper to open the jaws to a sufficient capacity. This is only a slight negative because you really can cut those larger branches with this lopper. With most non-ratcheting loppers, you cannot. In anycase, you would not want to use this lopper to cut the small and soft stuff because of the ratcheting action forcing you to open the jaws wider. I recently purchased a Fiskars 21-Inch PowerGear Bypass Lopper with 1-1/2-Inch Cutting Capacity #96276935A for someone, and I can tell you that the 27" Power Gear is much superior. The handles on the 27" are bigger and feel stouter. The biggest problem with the smaller Fiskar is that it uses metal gears, and they do not cushion the shock when completing a cut. Using it can be quite jarring. With the 27" Fiskar, the gears are made of wide plastic teeth that absorb shock very well. these are the best.very thick handles that are a one piece design for strengh.ive had other that broke or fell apart. these are about twice the size of other brands without the weight.pay the extra for quality -- dkb

I just received my Fiskars Power Gear Lopper - it is a winner all the way. I had a very old set (25yrs) and they served me well; but it was time for a change. I immediately went out and started cleaning up tree limbs - the power gear makes it a simple clean cut.
