User Reviews about Wallace 9658 Bypass Pruner

So far, I am very impressed with the Wallace bypass pruner. It is a great value for the price, as substantial a landscape tools I have purchased for 3-4x as much.
I forgot exactly how it had been described when I took it out in my yard (along with a pair of fiskars pruners) and given the heft, used it when the other pair seemed a bit small. It took out woody branches around 1" diameter with no trouble (their description says green live growth up to 3/4")...so in the future I won't push it... or maybe I will just get a back up set (at $6 that's a reasonable thing to do).
Having had it just a week or 2 I can not say how well it will hold up to the elements (and it will surely get a test here). Rust proof? I haven't seen it yet (note this was from another review, not the company's description, so I will not hold it against them if it rusts). All that said, I would guess the most vulnerable part would be that little spring in the middle; also where the "watch those fingers" remark comes from. The design is very similar to a pair of Henckels poultry shears I have. The little spring thing on those does rust and pretty quickly, indoors....but it also makes for greater leverage and ease of use. (In another review I recommended them for arthritis sufferers). These work very well, but that resemblance gives me pause. I can see someone easily removing a digit with these.
It pays to be careful with any tool; the more effective, the more so.

In sum, these are a powerful garden tool, well worth what amazon charges for them, so much so you may want multiples. -- watch those fingers!
Good pruner, easy to use.

It's a light-weight pruner and don't expect to use it on big brunches. But for such a low price, it's a very good deal. -- Well worth the money
I have expensive Felco Bypass Pruners that I use all the time, and wanted these as a 'back-up' for when my Felcos were being sharpened or I mislaid them, or to lend when friends ask if they can borrow my pruners. The Wallace pruners are every bit as sharp and work just as well as my $90 Felcos! Good value. -- nice little tool for the money!
Great Product! Love the coating on the blades, Rust proof!
Kind of hard to close and keep locked. I may have a defective pair.
Not important to me that they stay closed, I love them, use them everyday! -- Bypass Pruners
